Alisha Jones just graduated from the University of Arkansas with a major in Music Business, but she is hoping her voice will take her to the top of the charts.

She recently released a single on iTunes called “Outrun the World,” and was able to perform live for the first time at the Faulkner Performing Arts Center.

Jones opened for musician and actor, Randy Noojin, with a set list entirely made up of original music.

She said she has been dreaming of singing professionally since she was little, and drew inspiration from performers like Whitney Houston and Michael Jackson.

Jones said, “My #1 motto to myself has just been ‘What is the music saying to people?’ So I always make sure to try to express that. That’s what I loved about Michael Jackson and Whitney Houston, it wasn’t just their voices that were singing, it was what they were singing about and how they were expressing that to people.”

She added that she doesn’t quite have an end goal in her career, but she’s okay with that because it gives her the flexibility to explore and forge her own path.
